With all the noise of modern civilization, many people long to return to a simpler life. Away from wi-fi, smartphones and the conveniences of modern life, a more old-fashioned way of living off the land through farming seems like a far-flung dream getaway for those tired of today’s distractions. Aiming to get a break from everyday life in the form of a virtual getaway to the “farm,” we invite you to step into the universe of ARK: Survival Evolved.

In ARK: Survival Evolved you can collect seeds from the wild vegetation around you, plant them in gardens you build, water them and nurture them with fertilizer. As you tend your crops, they will grow to produce rare and delicious fruits, which can also be used to cook a host of recipes and make extremely useful tonics that will accompany you on your adventure. Explore the map to find the seeds of the rarest plants that have the most powerful properties!

In the ARK Genesis Part 2 expansion, there is a structure called “Tek Crop Plot”. Which is the Tek level version of a normal Crop Plot. Tek Crop Plots help plants grow faster without the need for sunlight while having a larger storage capacity. Tek Crop Plot also cools the plants, making them more self-stable. In addition, Tek Crop Plot has a maximum greenhouse effect of 500%, making it 1.5 times faster and more efficient than regular Crop Plot.

To grow a crop, you will need four things:

Tek Generator: Unlike normal crop plots, this crop plot requires a power source from the Tek Generator to operate.

A seed: One of the following plant seeds: Species X, Y, Z, R, Savoroot Seed, Longrass Seed, Rockarrot Seed, or Citronal Seed. (Berry seeds also work, but would not benefit from being planted in a Tek Crop Plot, you should use a Small Crop Plot instead).

Irrigation: Usually a water source connected to the plot via a Stone Tap or Metal Tap. Rainwater or water from a Waterskin also works but is less reliable.

Fertilization: Fertilizer made in a Compost Container or by a Manure Beetle or turned in a Toilet lasts the longest but takes a bit of time to make, so starting with simple Feces may be easier.

The crew members of the Starship Genesis used this high-tech Tek Crop Plot to grow crops throughout the ship. It appears that it can be used to grow plants almost anywhere. Since the Tek Garden provides its own light source, survivors can now grow crops in caves or anywhere, even if it doesn’t have sunlight. If you’re feeling adventurous, then what are you waiting for to build your own self-sustaining, subway base?
