A new free map has recently been announced for ARK: Survival Evolved, called “Lost Island”. This expansion is, in theory, the last expansion to be released for this game (although nothing is confirmed yet), in anticipation of the release of ARK II. A few weeks ago, a forum was created where you could submit ideas for creatures to be added to the Lost Island. From there, the list was narrowed down to the top 10 most voted proposals. Over 15,000 votes were tallied, and finally, voting for the second creature to be added to Lost Island has concluded.

The choice of the active player community in ARK: Survival Evolved is the Dinopithecus. These large baboons exhibit more herd-oriented behavior than would have been expected in their species. Entire troops organize around an alpha, and split up if that alpha is killed. Although they seem to prefer a diet of fruit supplemented with an occasional bit of meat, Dinopithecus are opportunistic and will eat almost anything. They are also excellent climbers: they have been seen climbing cliffs and jumping between trees to forage for food for their herd.

Dinopithecus show sharp teeth and throw handfuls of their own droppings when provoked. Their droppings are what really set this species apart: they have managed to create a parasite in them that disables TEK! If you manage to tame enough Dinopithecus, you will soon find yourself with a small army at your disposal, which will be organized around the strongest of the tamed ones, their new alpha, who can lead them to a target with a battle cry.

You don’t need to saddle your tamed Dinopithecus to ride it: it will make you a mount with its own tail. Just hold on tight and it will carry you straight through walls and vines. In battle, the Dinopithecus will launch fecal projectiles, grenades, or a combination of both.
