The Carnotaurus, or simply Carno, is a species of dinosaur in ARK: Survival Evolved. The Carnotaurus is a distinctive creature that falls somewhere between a medium and a large predator. It lives mainly on flat, cleared terrain, where it can take advantage of its speed. In addition, it seems to have no qualms about fleeing from larger predators rather than fighting. The horns of Carnotaurus seem to be used more for fighting rivals than for hunting. However, this does not mean that the horns are not dangerous. They can still gut larger prey. Carnotaurus is one of the smallest and most compact among the category of large predators. If Tyrannosaurus is the “lion” of the island, Carnotaurus would certainly be the “cheetah”. The real threat of a Carnotaurus is not being able to escape from it once it has located you. The Carnotaurus serves a very specific function. Larger and almost as fast as a Raptor, smaller but much faster than a Rex.

They attack everything in sight and have a fairly large agro range. However, they seem to prioritize other dinosaurs over humans. Their head attack inflicts a hemorrhage and has a knockback effect, and can knock their victim off a cliff. Carnotaurus sometimes hunt in groups. Any survivor lacking movement speed points will be quickly overpowered and forced to engage in close-range combat with the Carnotaurus, which often proves futile early in the game.

The Carno is one of the medium-sized predators on the island. Although smaller than a Rex, it can be very lethal. This magnificent dinosaur can be confronted with a ranged weapon, such as a rifle. Try to avoid it unless you are sure you can defeat it. Make sure there are no other Carnos or other creatures in the area so that the battle consists only of you and the Carno. Any decent level, well-trained tamed creature will do to fight him, as they don’t have much health.

Finally, make sure the Carno doesn’t glow red. If it does, it’s an Alpha Carno — run away!
